Israel has worked hard to build Local 509 into a financially strong organization. As the constitutional financial officer, he implemented the most robust internal controls aimed at maximum transparency and accountability on how dues dollars are spent. Independent auditors have cited the Local’s vigorous fiscal management, modernization of the finance department operations to safeguard the union against fraudulent practices, and the implementation of high ethical standards. Treasurer Pierre has worked with the board to expand union benefits to all members. Some of these include the addition of scholarships to members, and a 100% union-sponsored life insurance. During Israel’s tenure as Treasurer, he has led 509 to an unprecedented increase in assets, the largest in its 62 year history.
